California based Arena Pharmaceuticals has been working on a weight loss drug called Lorcaserin for quite some time now. It has been in development for many years, with several announced release dates falling through, partially due to rejection by the FDA.
The latest news, though, is that Lorcaserin could be on the market in less than a year. The real question, though, is this: is Lorcaserin worth the wait, or has it been overhyped?
Lorcaserin is different from the typical weight loss pill in that its functionality comes from increasing serotonin levels in the system. This, theoretically, works like a hunger suppressant, just like what we have seen in many other products on the market.
The hype, though, has come partially from the rapid results many users have seen in the trial runs – people losing anywhere from five to ten percent of their body weight, with the average user losing eight percent.
The main reason, of course, that Lorcaserin isn’t available yet is because it has been rejected by the FDA. The FDA rejected Lorcaserin for several reasons – including a possible link to cancer.
Stronger links were established with side effects of lightheadedness, tiredness, vomiting, moderate headaches, moderate dehydration, and even urinary tract infections. Also, use of Lorcaserin could actually cause people to eat too little, resulting in malnutrition.
Because the FDA has rejected this pill several times in the past, there is no guarantee that it will be approved on the next appraisal. If it is rejected again, this could result in further delays. Additionally, development costs have been driven up by the repeated rejections, which could result in high prices when it is released.
And perhaps the most important of all is that the long term health effects would still be unknown. Other products similar to Lorcaserin in the past have been pulled from shelves years after release due to long term health risks that have eventually turned up.
You don’t have to wait an unknown number of months to try a product with questionable safety. Even today, there are dozens of safe and natural appetite suppressants that are free of any significant side effects and that have been produced in FDA approved laboratories.
One such option is the #1 ranked Hoodia Gordonii. Hoodia has been proven safe and effective by numerous clinical studies, and on top of that it is 100% natural.
If you’d like to give Hoodia Gordonii a try, you might consider the highly effective UniqueHoodia weight loss pill.
